How is dandruff removed?

- Categories : hair-care

The most embarrassing thing that can happen when you dress up for an interview or a formal dinner is the need to scratch your scalp and know that a cascade of white scales will fall on your clothes. Dandruff is a medical problem that has brought together more than half of the adult population worldwide, beyond gender, age and race.

This condition of the scalp is caused by a fungus, malassezia, which feeds on sebum (the oily matter secreted by the sebaceous glands in the scalp) and the dead cells of the epidermis that occur naturally due to the formation of new skin.

Although this microorganism is part of the microbial flora of the scalp, it can become problematic when feeding on sebum, and then break it down into fatty acids that irritate the sensitive scalp. This is also the reason for dryness and itching, which leads to dead skin cells accumulating in visible scales. The level of sensitivity of people to these fatty acids determines whether they develop acute or mild dandruff.

How to get rid of dandruff?

1.     Discover the origin

Before you can deal effectively with what’s happening to your scalp, you need to know what you’re dealing with. There are technically three types of dandruff:

-        Psoriasis: These are large, red, itchy scales that are usually also seen on the elbows, knees, and other areas of the body. If you think you have psoriasis, talk to your doctor for an evaluation: psoriasis does not respond to regular shampoos or dandruff treatments, so you should talk to a specialist who will prescribe medications that can help.

-        Dry scalp: these are small white scales that easily detach from the hair and scalp without sticking. Dry scalp flakes are usually quite small and noticeably dried. If you’re dealing with dry scalp, try using a scalp oil treatment for a few weeks before showering. If these scales get significantly worse or show no signs of improvement, you are most likely dealing with seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff).

-        Seborrheic dermatitis: these are yellowish and sticky scales that are often, but not always, accompanied by a red, oily scalp. This type is considered the classic type of dandruff and is affected by the production of scalp ferments. Dandruff can often appear oily, and it breaks off as larger flakes that are usually clumped together. To get rid of this type of dandruff, it is most effective to use an anti-dandruff shampoo every time you wash your hair and, in various cases, the use of this type of shampoo can become undefined.

The formula to combat the problem you use the anti-dandruff shampoo is very important in the latter case, since not all the ingredients will work the same. Note that they contain piroctone olamine and climbazol, the two most effective ingredients for dandruff treatments, which work to remove the extra fungi present in the scalp and the small dandruff flakes that come with them.

An effective and long-lasting option is Redenhair Anti-dandruff Shampoo, enriched with piroctone olamine, climbazol and Dandrilys, an extract developed from the Brazilian plant Ziziphys joazeiro which is considered a powerful dandruff reducing agent, with extensive soothing and anti-inflammatory activity.

The double effectiveness of this shampoo acts against the dandruff present and also to prevent its reappearance, thanks to its complete composition and its sulfate-free formula, which is not aggressive with the scalp.

2.      Locates the cause

If you’re experiencing dandruff for the first time, it’s interesting to locate the cause. Keep track of what you’re eating, take note of stressful events, and be alert to major changes in your environment. Look at those possible triggers first, and if there’s anything obvious that might be related, work on it.

However, keep in mind that even if you realize what is causing or worsening your dandruff, there is no guarantee that your solution will be permanent: once dandruff is spread, it does not necessarily mean that it will disappear immediately or that it will never reappear.

3.     Test a hair peel

It is no secret that the accumulation of products is not too compatible with avoiding dandruff. One possible solution is to use a scalp scrub once a week to remove the remnants of other products you can use (hairspray, dry shampoo, and extra fat). Remember that scalp scrubs should be used very gently: massage the formula with your fingertips (not your nails) and rinse it thoroughly before washing and conditioning.

Although the appearance of dandruff may be a real nightmare, treating it does not have to be. Before starting a treatment, remember that it may not be a permanent solution and that for your type of scalp it is better to always use the anti-dandruff shampoo. You can get rid of dandruff and never show up again, but chances are you can experience dandruff formation again from one moment to the next.

As long as you keep up with your Redenhair Anti-dandruff Shampoo and a scalp scrub, you should definitely notice great relief and a consistent solution for your dandruff problems.
