What are the causes of itching of the scalp?

- Categories : hair-care

Because there are so many causes of itching of the scalp, the vast majority of people have suffered it at some time or other. Itching of the scalp is a common problem that can cause frustrating symptoms, such as scratches and the frequent discomfort of the urge to scratch in public. Often, itching of the skin where hair grows is accompanied by visible signs, such as dry or flaking skin. Nevertheless, many other times, we suffer intense itching with no appreciable change to the skin.

Although a scalp that itches does not usually indicate a serious medical problem, it may be a symptom of an underlying disorder. The most common cause of itching is seborrheic dermatitis, better known as dandruff. This type of dermatitis is most likely to occur in areas around the sebaceous glands that secrete grease, including the skin that covers the skull and parts of the face. Although doctors do not know the exact reason dandruff appears, some possible causes include excessive growth of fungus on the skin, seasonal changes, hormonal fluctuations and even stress.

An itchy scalp could simply be the consequence of hypersensitivity in the skin that covers the skull. Nevertheless, it may also be a symptom of an underlying medical disorder. Other additional causes include, for example, allergic reactions to a medicinal product, an anxiety disorder, contact dermatitis or irritation due to a new or harsh hair product, lice, migraine, psoriasis of the scalp, alopecia or ringworm.

What are the symptoms of itching of the scalp?

Itching of the scalp can feel like tingling or pain. Scratching can provide relief, but this often also causes pain. The symptoms that accompany this itching include:

-          Bald patches

-          Dry or irritated skin

-          Moderate fever

-          Sores with pus

-          Flaky scalp

-          Inflammation of the scalp

How can I treat itching of the scalp?

It is important to identify the cause of itching of the scalp, as this will indicate one treatment or another. For example, dandruff is treated by washing the hair frequently with special topical agents. Similarly, other treatments include the application of antimycotic or keratolytic creams, such as salicylic acid, zinc pyrithione or topical steroids. The PRO-REGENERATIVE ACCELERATOR by REDENHAIR is a product that not only stimulates the growth of healthy hair, but also prevents dandruff or excess sebum, while hydrating dry and flaky scalps.

Moreover, the presence of lice in the hair is one of the reasons for itching of the scalp that causes most discomfort and, despite the fact they can be treated with home-made remedies, the use of a pharmaceutical treatment to fully do away with these parasites is indicated.

If the itching is due to an allergic reaction, it is important to detect which hair product may have triggered the reaction. Products with sulphates, silicones and parabens are generally harshest on the scalp, so it is advisable to avoid these ingredients, especially in sensitive skins with a tendency to suffer allergic reactions. The ANTI-HAIR LOSS SHAMPOO by REDENHAIR helps slow hair loss and stimulates healthy growth, and is gentle on the scalp, with 100% natural ingredients and active substances of the highest quality.

As we have seen, there are many causes of itching of the scalp. In this article we have described the main causes and we have provided effective REDENHAIR solutions. If you would like additional information, a visit to a doctor may provide a more personal diagnosis.
